Teeth Whitening
Our teeth change color over time due to various reasons. One reason can be due to age, which can cause your teeth to have a yellow or grey hue and another factor can be due to dietary habits. Tea, coffee or red wine can cause your teeth to stain as well as medications, smoking habits, or poor oral hygiene.
Our team is professionally trained to provide you with whitening services. We offer different types of treatments to fit your treatment needs.
Am I A Candidate For Teeth Whitening?
Almost everyone is a candidate for teeth whitening. However, if you have any untreated dental decay or any other treatment needs you must have this done first before you go through with the whitening process. If teeth are whitened while active dental cavities are present, it could worsen these conditions and cause the tooth to need root canal therapy or an extraction. Also, if you have teeth sensitivity, you may become more sensitive during treatment. However, consult with our doctor first and our team will provide you with a plan to get you started.
BOOST In Office Whitening
Boost whitening uses hydrogen peroxide or carbamide as an active ingredient inside a formulated gel. A light is used and shined on this gel that causes a reaction to remove stain and brighten teeth. This procedure requires only one appointment and uses ultraviolet light to activate the hydrogen peroxide in the whitening agent to get the teeth whiter. If your teeth aren't white enough, a reapplication can be used a second time during treatment. Treatment time is usually 1-2 hours.
At Home Whitening
If you don't have time for in office whitening, we understand! We offer take home whitening kits where you can whiten your teeth at home in your own free time.
All it takes is 2 visits.
-
During the first visit, we will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth so that we can fabricate custom fitted bleaching trays that will fit perfectly against your teeth and gums.
-
After a few days we will have your trays ready and at your second visit we will try your trays in to ensure a good fit. At this visit, we will discuss instructions on how to use your take home kit and how long to leave your trays in during treatment.
Each appointment takes less than 30 minutes. Results are usually present after a couple of weeks.
What are the risks?
-
If you have sensitive teeth, whitening may worsen this sensitivity but this is reversible by stopping the procedure
-
Crowns, veneers, and fillings will not change color
-
If any dental decay is present, whitening can worsen it. Therefore, you must have all treatment completed prior to whitening
-
With some patients, their teeth may develop white spots but these usually disappear after a week or so
